Making Our Candidates Safe

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Illinois participates in edTPA™, which means that, in order to complete a student teaching assignment, the teacher candidate has to complete an assessment called the Teacher Performance Assessment.  This assessment includes submitting a short video recording of him/her teaching a series of lessons in the classroom and examples of student work completed.  In the course of recording his/her teaching, your child may appear on the video.  The teacher candidate will gather samples of student work to submit as evidence of his/her teaching practice, which may include some of your child’s work.  This is not an assessment of your child’s performance.  This is an assessment of teacher candidate instruction, which is required for him/her to obtain an Illinois Teacher Licensure.

No student’s name will appear on any materials that are submitted, and materials will be kept confidential at all times.  The video recordings and student work the candidate teacher submits will not be made public in any way.  Materials the candidate teacher submits will be reviewed by content-specific program at Chicago State University, and they may be used by test developers under secure conditions for edTPA program development and implementation, including scorer training, and to support continued program improvement activities such as future validity and reliability studies.

You will be provided a parental/guardian consent form to include your child in the video and his/her class work.  If you have additional questions, you may contact Chicago State University edTPA coordinator, Dr. Patrice C. Boyles, pboyles@csu.edu, 773-995-2271.   In addition, you are welcome to visit edTPA.com.
