Chicago State University Alumni Elects Board Of Directors

Chicago State University Alumni Elects Board Of Directors(Chicago, July 26, 2017)- The Chicago Teachers College/Chicago State University Alumni Association (CTC/CSU Alumni Association) board of directors announced the recent election of its executive committee members to serve for the 2017-2019 term. The board includes:
Lisa Abston-Leftridge, PhD (BS’96) was re-elected board president of the CTC/CSU Alumni Association. Abston-Leftridge earned her PhD in Interdepartmental Biological Sciences in 2004 from Northwestern University. She is currently the Director of Biomedical Sciences Graduate Programs at the University of Chicago. Dr. Abston-Leftridge resides in Homewood, IL with her husband and their two sons.

Bob Szyman,PhD (BS’69, MS ‘71) is the newly elected vice president. Dr. Szyman earned a PhD in Therapeutic Recreation at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1980. He is presently a professor at Chicago State University in the College of Education and department of Physical Education, He and his wife, reside in Beverly.

Carolyn Eloby(BS‘94) was re-elected as treasurer. Eloby holds a MBA in Accounting and Finance from Florida Institute of Technology, and is CEO/Owner of Sherrice James and Associates, a one stop business solutions company, which creates solutions to help small businesses and not-for-profits to meet their goals. Ms. Eloby has over twenty-years of financial experience, and is a resident of Markham, IL.

Additionally, Monique Washington (BS‘94) was re-elected as secretary. Ms. Washington is a top Coldwell Banker real estate agent with over a decade of real estate experience, and resides in Calumet Park, IL.

“The CTC/CSU alumni board of directors has gained tremendous momentum over the past year. They have been great volunteers for the university and bring a diversity of experience and new energy to campus,” said Dr. Rachel W. Lindsey, Interim President of Chicago State University.”

Chicago State University celebrates its 150th anniversary this year. The university opened its doors as a teacher training school in a leaky railroad freight car in Blue Island, Illinois on September 2, 1867. Today, in contrast, the University is a fully accredited public, urban institution located on 161-picturesque acres in a residential community on the South side of Chicago.

“I am honored and extremely excited to be re-elected president of the CTC/CSU Alumni Association Board of Directors,” Dr. Abston-Leftridge said. “It’s an exciting time to be a CSU alumna and to see all the changes at the University. I look forward to matching President Rachel Lindsey’s enthusiasm and vision in getting alumni re-engaged with the university. ”
